As Mel Robbins teaches us in her brilliant Let Them book, the key to peace and happiness is learning to let people be who they are. And you know what? The same can be said about our bras. Yep, you heard me. Life lessons from your lingerie drawer are very real.
Think about it: every bra in your wardrobe has a personality. Some are loud, flashy, and full of sparkle—great for a night out but not exactly what you need when it’s time for serious support. Others are reliable, comfortable, and there for you every day, like that friend who always shows up when you need a good vent session.
But here’s the thing: not every bra (or person) is meant to do it all. That lacy little number? It’s not here to support your high-impact gym class. And your sports bra? It doesn’t want to spend its life under cocktail dresses. The trick is to let them be who they are and stop expecting them to be something they’re not.
It’s the same with people. We’ve all had that “party friend” we love to hit the dance floor with but wouldn’t call for deep emotional talks. Or the dependable “everyday” friend who’s great for coffee dates but isn’t exactly the life of the party. And that’s okay. Let them be who they are, just like you let your bras do their job without asking for more than they’re built for.
But what about the bras—or people—that aren’t working for you anymore? The stretched-out, unsupportive ones poking you in the ribs? Instead of forcing them to change, Mel Robbins would say, “Let them.” Let them sag. Let them poke. Let them be who they are—just not in your drawer (or your life). It’s time to release them with gratitude and make space for something better.
Because here’s the truth: bras and people are designed for specific purposes. If you stop trying to make them something they’re not, you’ll save yourself a lot of discomfort—and maybe even a few bruised ribs.
So, in 2025, let’s fully embrace Mel Robbins’ Let Them philosophy—for our bras and our relationships. Let that barely-there pullover live its best life as your go-to for lazy Sundays. Let your push-up bra reign supreme on date nights. And let that old, stretched-out, unsupportive one finally retire. Trust me, trying to hold it together with safety pins is a disaster waiting to happen, usually on the treadmill.
And when it comes to people? Let them be who they are. If they’re not the right fit, that’s okay. Let Them. Like the perfect bra, the right people will lift you up, support you, and make you feel amazing. And if they’re stretched out and no longer fit your life? LET THEM and release them with love—and for the love of all things holy, do not try to safety pin them back together. That will definitely end in disaster!
Here’s to a new year, a new booby-titude, and LET THEM be.
Stay supported, stay fabulous, and remember—life’s too short for saggy bras or saggy relationships.
Cheers to 2025,
